“Could Be Worse than Regular Cigarettes”

In an interview with Dr. Jonathan Whiteson of NYU’s Cardiac and Pulmonary Wellness and Rehab program, Dr. Whiteson stresses how little credible information there is on the dangers of e-cigarettes and how he believes that he may even be more dangerous than smoking traditional cigarettes.

In the interview with CBS, Dr. Whiteson was asked bluntly, “Are they safe?” To which he responded, “We don’t know, but we don’t think so.”

“They are made in China. They’re unregulated. Certainly not approved by the FDA,” he added. “We don’t know the contents of the vapor. This has not been studied.”

Then, Dr. Whiteson was asked if he believed it may be possible that e-cigarettes could actually be more dangerous than smoking traditional cigarettes.

“It could be,” he stated. “We have no analysis of the vapor.”

So where exactly is the research that shows this “smokeless cigarette” is actually a safe alternative to smoking a regular old Marlboro cigarette? If it does exist, we are having a great deal of trouble finding it.

I nearly lost a friend who started taking Chantix. Fortunatly, he was warned about the suicide problems and stopped immediatly when the effects were felt.

Found this site while looking in to the potential problems with e-Cigs… You have a problem with your article though :

” Dr. Jonathan Whiteson ( … ) stresses how little credible information there is on the dangers of e-cigarettes and how he believes that >he< may even be more dangerous than smoking traditional cigarettes. "

HE may well be more dangerous than smoking traditional cigarettes, on that much I think we can all agree.

Glaring errors aside one has to ask the question his if he doesn't know if e-Cigs have any side effects, hasn't analysed anything at all and says that they could be more dangerous to health than traditional cigs.

That's like me, as the qualified scientist that I am, saying that although I can easily get my hands on and study this mystery substance but haven't I must warn you that it could be more dangerous than this other substance that has been proven to contain thousands of toxic chemicals and is linked to hundreds of thousands of deaths a year worldwide.

That's scientific and it's not scaremongering at all… Is it ?

What I love about your completely unbiased article here is your closing comment :

" So where exactly is the research that shows this “smokeless cigarette” is actually a safe alternative to smoking a regular old Marlboro cigarette? If it does exist, we are having a great deal of trouble finding it."

Your site is amazing simply and only for the reason that you don't even have to read between the lines to see your agenda. This is a propaganda site – it's that simple.

Hopefully you wont strip this comment out or block it… I suspect you will.

After 20 + years of smoking cigarettes my health began to fail with coughing fits and numerous trips to Dr. due to Bronchitis… because I lack the strength to quit my nicotine addiction altogether, I decided to try the e-cig. I was amazed that my body seemed to heal quickly from the years of abuse and the coughing stopped after only 2 days with the e-cig. I have honestly not even had a regular cough type cold since I started using the e-cig which was just about 2 years ago! The truth about e-cigs is this: They will not help you quit your addiction to nicotine and you may even become more addicted to the nicotine itself, but the trade off with your health is worth it! I believe if e-cigs were harmful in anyway I would not be feeling so good after 2 years! Just my opinion! :)

Where is the research? It’s out there is you google for it. Let me help you out. Almost 2 years ago Dr. Michael Siegel, Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences at Boston University School of Public Health weighs in with his quarter of a century of experience in the field of tobacco control.
    http://tobaccoanalysis.blogspot.com/2009/07/comparison.html

His findings? E-cigs are much safer than tobacco cigs.

I’m not sure why the OP is on this anti-e-cig crusade. It’s sad to see someone attempt to spread non-truths about a product that has the potential to save many lives.

  6. Peter says:

I hope Dr. Whiteson is proud of himself. He’s abused his position and his laziness has probably caused some smokers to not try to quit with what is likely the most successful method ever invented.

The fact is that there is plenty of research and analyses comparing the level of harmful components in tobacco smoke and e-cigarette vapor. Cigarette smoke contains thousands of times more carcinogens and nitrosamines than does vapor. If he’s looking for this data to come from the pharmaceutical or tobacco industry, he has a long wait.

The cat is out of the bag and the pharma and tobacco companies are quaking in their boots. Their coffin nails and their ineffective and dangerous cessation methods will be exposed for the frauds they are and they’ll lose billions. In cooperation with their puppets in the FDA, they’re engaged in a propaganda campaign against e-cigs, resulting in the irresponsible statements of Dr. Whitestone and propaganda websites like this one.
